old cairo

Wednesday, 21 August 2013

after a nap, we decided to go wander around the streets of the old cairo. everything downsized to be more human. we visited a small mosque, which featured a mix of ancient egyptian, roman, ottoman, and islamic art, we climbed up the circular stairs of the minaret and watched the sunset listening to the prayers leading to iftar. it was a very special moment, we had spent a very intense two weeks and our trip was coming to an end, so we sat down and waited for the sun to disappear.

the next morning, i was flying home. my alarm clock rang the end of a beautiful first encounter with the middle-east.
